HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA PROGRAM High School Diploma courses are available to suit any schedule, in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening.
Adults may earn a high school diploma in 3 ways:
1. Complete 170 credits from 34 specific courses. Credits earned from an approved adult or high school, the military, paid work experience, and from challenge tests can be accepted. Students must also pass the California High School Exit Exam.
2. Pass the English GED and complete 10 additional specific courses, and pass the California High School Exit Exam.
3. Pass the Spanish GED and complete 14 additional specific courses, and pass the California High School Exit Exam.
Students working on their high school diploma receive individual assistance in planning and completing their programs of study to ensure they achieve their goals as quickly and efficiently as possible. To talk to an academic counselor call (323) 441-4680 from 2 to 9 pm.
GED PREPARATION PROGRAM Students preparing for the GED receive individual assistance in planning and completing their programs of study. The GED Examination is also offered at Wilson-Lincoln Community Adult School each year. ADULT INDEPENDENT STUDY (HOME STUDY) Adult Independent Study provides adult students theoption to complete high school diploma courses outside the regular classroom at their own pace. Students taking a course in AIS keep weekly appointments with the instructor to turn in and pick up work, and to ask questions and discuss course materials. A refundable deposit may be required to cover the cost of books. Please speak to a counselor at (323) 441-4680 (after 2 pm) for additional information.
DISTANCE LEARNING ESL & Parent Education Adults can learn English and Parenting Skills at home by checking out DVD’s or video cassettes. This program is designed for students unable to attend traditional classes, as well as for students who wish to supplement their regular ESL classes.
BOOKS - Students enrolled in ESL classes and teacher directed academic classes are encouraged to purchase books. REGISTRATION FEE - Students who do not qualify for exemption are charged a registration fee. Exemptions include: age 60 or older, attending classes approved by a counselor for high school credit, concurrent high school students, and students in citizenship, elementary skills, English as a Second Language, adults with disabilities, and parent education classes. STUDENT BODY CARD FEE - A voluntary student body fee of $1.00 is payable upon enrollment. Student body monies are used to defray non-instructional expenses that benefit students.
